As a personal stylist, I have found City Workshop to be my best source of clothing for my male clients. The store owner Roger is always on hand, has excellent knowledge of the clothes, and will tell the story behind the fabric, manufacture, and source of each item. The clothes are stylish yet awesomely comfortable and they look distinguished at work or a little cool for everyday. And yes, the prices are high but worth it if you are buying local, reliably sourced clothes that last for years and years. One client has worn a beloved shirt for over five years, first for work and now for everyday. Go there and enjoy.

Located in the idyllic Maplewood Village, City Workshop is a gem that I recently came across while finding a place to get my new Naked and Famous Japanese denim hemmed by professionals in the genre. City Workshop has exceeded my expectations in many ways.

The co-owner, Roger, was very accommodating and greets you on the way in, wearing his own amazing personal style, guiding you, and asking the right questions. The seamstress N’namdi was very skilled, nice, and helpful. N’namdi’s hemming was prompt, at an unbeatable price, and the workmanship was beautifully done, with a classic chainstitch using a Union Special, despite my overly thick Japanese denim.

As for the store itself, you can expect to see a beautiful bespoke collection of local (NYC Brands) and import (Japanese Brands) clothing items, bags, and footwear. This is the type of specialized place that you might find in Soho, but right in our home state of NJ, without the need to take a $25 commute into the city. The prices are what you’d expect from the unmatched quality of each clothing article, made to last a lifetime. I had to hold myself back to NOT buy anything, but needless to say, I will be back! The stuff they feature are all super enticing.

I was greeted and helped by Robyn before I even entered the store. I told her what I was looking for, and she gave me one of my best experiences ever in a clothing store. She never pressured me to make a purchase, and even when I felt ready to buy, she encouraged me to take my time. She helped me try on a plethora of shirts and shoes, offered me different styles that I wasn’t use to, while also trying to help me stay true to my own style. She was very attentive, and even helped others around me without making me feel forgotten. The other staff in the store was also very polite and helpful. I will be coming back here to make purchases regularly, and I’d recommend City Workshop to anyone looking to buy clothes.

Great menswear shop with a selection that you'd expect to find in the city from shops like Blue in Green or Self Edge. I went there for the first time to have some jeans hemmed with their Union Special chainstitching machine. They did a great job. Friendly people too. I'll be back for sure. Also, it's great that they carry Alden boots!

Shops like these are a diamond. Having lived in nyc and still working there but knowing there’s an awesome men’s shop that’s well curated near me is amazing. The quality of the clothing and styles are great and you feel comfortable and welcome! We need to support small businesses like these!

I'm thrilled that such a gem exists right here in Jersey and that you don't have to go to NYC to find highly curated amazing pieces.
